Well today has been a very fruitful day in the studio, I have finally started to amalgamate all my mythological orchestra figures together into one whole image. Its six A1 sheets so far, but i'm going to have to add another four I think to get all the relevant instruments in. I started with doing a little study sketch of the Minotaur Harpist (top left) earlier and it has just evolved and snowballed from there! I should of made the figures a lot smaller in heinsight, but I'm enjoying the challenges that this size drawing is throwing at me. At the moment, although you cant see them very well on the picture I have attached, there is about 15 different characters so far, I think I will add another five, else the task will just become to colossal and will take forever to accomplish. If anybody has any interesting: characters, legends, stories, myths, ideas that involve any 'humanoid' characters that would help me, as i'm starting to run a little dry on ideas, it would be much appreciated. I have looked at Indian, Egyptian and Greek mythology mainly for inspiration - any other religions or belief systems that will provide fruitful?

One thing I have started to sedulously started to look at within this drawing is anatomy. I have my trusty books on hand and I have tried very hard to figure out how these bodies slot together, both human, and animal/beast combined - which is a lot more difficult than I firstly imagined! I'm still struggling a bit, so I think I might need to take a few photos (any volunteers?) to really nail the whole layout of how the bodies react not only with each other, but also with the instruments themselves.

I hope to get a little bit more done tomorrow so some more pictures should be coming soon, watch this space!
