I thought I would blog today about an artist I have know about for a while, but havn't really researched or looked into properly. Eric Fischl (born March 9, 1948) is an American painter, sculptor and printmaker.
Bio: Fischl was born in New York City and grew up on suburban Long Island; his family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1967. His own web site describes him as growing up "against a backdrop of alcoholism and a country club culture obsessed with image over content."
His art education began at Phoenix College, then a year at Arizona State University, then California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California, where he earned his BFA in 1972. He then moved to Chicago, taking a job as a guard at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
I find some of his his work a little disturbing and at the same time have

a mesmeric quality about them. I have chosen a slightly less provocative one in this blog. Some of his paintings that i find really interesting are the one that seem to be made up of different shaped canvasses, but combine together with the painted image. I really like the way the images 'logically fit together' and capture a multi-faceted viewpoints of the same scene, but at the same time stand alone as singular paintings capturing an 'essence of the whole'.Maybe this would be a way I could approach creating my work, but also displaying my work. Initially creating work through automatic drawings, which produce very nutty and fractured narratives, and then further fracturing them by creating montages of these resulting images. The possibilities are endless and process like collage can be worked into my work, combining it all the time with my love for painting and drawing, but keeping it fresh, relevant and interesting.
I think i will leave it there as blogger has mucked up and blew all my text out of proportion, i hope it sorts itself out! Will post some of my work soon as I really should be focusing on my work so I have something to show in September when we go back!
